FSSAI (Food) Registration & Renewal

Food Safety and Standards Authority of India

FSSAI monitors and governs the food business in India. Every food business operator involved in manufacturing, processing, storage, distribution and sale of food products must obtain FSSAI Registration or License.

About FSSAI License

FSSAI is an autonomous body under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, established under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. It ensures food products undergo quality checks, curtails adulteration and lays down rules for Food Business Operators (FBO) in India. The 14-digit registration number is printed on all food packages.

FSSAI Registration

Basic license for small-scale FBO: Annual turnover not more than Rs 12 lakh, petty retailers, temporary stall holders, cottage industries (up to 100 kg/ltr per day production).

State License

Turnover Rs 12 lakh to Rs 20 crore. Manufacturing 2MT/day, dairy 50,000L/day, 3-star+ hotels, repackers, caterers. Tenure: 1-5 years.

Central License

Turnover exceeding Rs 20 crore, operations in 2+ states. All importers and exporters. Tenure: 1-5 years.

Documents Required

State/Central License

  • • Form B, Plan of processing unit
  • • List of Directors/Partners with ID
  • • List of equipment and food category
  • • Water analysis report, NOC from municipality
  • • Partnership deed/affidavit, incorporation certificate

Basic Registration

  • • Form A application to Food and Safety Department
  • • Passport photo and photo ID proof
  • • Application accepted or rejected within 7 days

License Renewal

Apply for renewal 30 days prior to expiry. FSSAI Food Licensing and Registration System (FLRS) enables online application. Regional Offices: New Delhi, Kolkata, Guwahati, Mumbai, Kerala, Chennai.
